It is hard meeting new people, particularly if you are an adult.
However, in the business world, people have to come together to put their efforts towards a common goal. Using icebreakers is one of the team building tips for building an effective team that takes very little effort but achieves great results!
The team will run much more smoothly if people are comfortable with one another.
A great way to achieve this is by implementing some team icebreakers at the beginning of every training session. Icebreakers are great because they allow people to learn about each other while letting down their guard at the same time.
Below are 3 great team icebreakers that have been proven to work.
#1 – Interview Your New Friend
This is a fun game that will allow your team members to engage with one another. Give each member a piece of paper that contains a series of instructions or interview questions. Each person has a different interview question and will attempt to connect with everyone in the room then report to the group with the results. Each member asks the question on their paper when speaking to their peers.
Common questions include…
- Who has traveled to the most countries?
- How many people in the room have blue eyes?
- Who has the most unusual hobby?
#2 – The Question Web
Many of you have probably played this game as children. All you need for the question web is a spool of string and a list of about 20 questions that will allow people to tell the group about themselves.
Start by holding the string, and then throw the spool to a team member. This person must choose a question from the list and give their answer to the group.
Once they’ve finished, the throw the spool to the next person and the process repeats.
This is a great way to learn interesting facts about your group, and you’ll get a fun, intricate web design by the time the game is over which can be used to demonstrate the power of networking in business.
#3 – Deserted Island Icebreaker
Another popular team icebreaker that many of you have played at one point or another is deserted island.
Gather everyone in a circle and announce the scenario in which each person is exiled to a deserted island with only the bare essentials to survive on.
Ask each person if they were allowed to bring one book (no religious texts), one piece of music, and one luxury item, what would these things be? This is another great way for the group to interact with one another as it usually leads to fun discussions.
While these may seem silly, when it comes to team icebreakers, there is no question that they can improve the dynamic of your group by getting everyone to relax and become friends.
Implement one or many of the games mentioned above and your team is sure to become a closer unit from the beginning of the meeting and connect even more by the end of the day.
