Does Your Business do enough for Charity
As either the owner or someone responsible for the running of a business, it can be all too easy to become consumed by the firm’s ultimate bottom line. Businesses are ultimately judged on profit, or lack of, and with each quarter of the year moving swiftly by you can be forgiven for not thinking about those outside of your organisation.
It is common for businesses to adopt a favoured charity of trust, helping to raise funds for a given cause. Even if your business has adopted a charity, can you say that you couldn’t/shouldn’t do more than you are?
Being Seen in the Community
Helping to raise money for charity is a fantastic way for your business to be seen in the community. Whether it is just something as simple as hosting a cake sale, fun running or throwing a party, these are all great ideas that go a long way to helping your charity of choice.
Local news sources will also be willing to cover an event, which will make for good publicity in the local community, as well as raising awareness for your event and charitable cause. Depending on the nature of your business, you don’t necessarily have to be seen to be holding fundraisers in order to do your bit for charity.
What Else Can the Business do?
Donating items such as food and clothing to the homeless is an initiative that more businesses should adopt, particularly those in the catering or fashion industry that constantly discard items that would be most welcome by those less fortunate. In France, it is against the law for large supermarkets to waste food, with food banks and charities benefitting from the change of law in 2016.
It goes without saying, though, that it should not take a change in legislation in order for businesses to adopt more charitable initiatives. Businesses help charitable causes, whether in the public domain or on a more private scale, often enjoy a good reputation in the community.
Improve Work Morale
For staff, the opportunity to focus their efforts away from the usual day-to-day tasks can be a welcome distraction. Even if just for a morning or so, staff can have fun with charitable events which can have a positive effect on the workforce.
Fundraisers can be used as an effective means of team building, bringing colleagues closer together in a fun and relaxed environment. Running a business can be stressful, that goes without saying, so the opportunity to let your hair down and join in the fun can even be a welcome diversion for managers and owners.
Multicultural Communities
In 2018, we live in a multicultural society where we work alongside other members of the team from various different backgrounds. With many different communities on our doorstep, being active in those is a step in the right direction and it can start by your business demonstrating an understanding and tolerance of different beliefs. For example, Muslims pay a percentage of their disposable income as zakat (you can see this website for more information).
There is a multitude of ways that your business can get involved in charity and, even if you feel that yours is doing enough, we bet that you can do even more.
